Murder of Irate Husband
Moving house to another part of Sheffield, Charles Peace met his neighbours Mr and Mrs Dyson with whom he became strangely obsessed, constantly in their house and prying into their affairs. When eventually asked to stop interfering he was enraged and threatened both with a revolver. Mr Dyson took out a warrant for his arrest and Peace fled to Hull, but he returned a month later and waited for Mrs Dyson by the outside privy. Her ensuing shrieks brought out her angry husband; Peace shot him dead.
Again Peace fled, moving from city to city, sometimes chatting up policemen in the train. Finally he and his new mistress settled in Hull as Mr and Mrs Thompson, and from their lodgings in a policeman's house he embarked upon a successful
season of robberies.
