The ancient parish of Yateley consisted of four tithings: Yateley, Hawley, Minley and Cove, an area of 10,035 acres.
White's Directory of 1878 gives the population of Yateley Tithing as 1,104. In 1881 the Census gives 1,133 persons. The large OS map of 1871 shows most of Yateley Tithing, the area covered by this study.
