St Peter's Church, Church End, Yateley

Conservation Status Listed Grade II, in Yateley Green Conservation Area

The Church, which dates back to Saxomn times, was badly damaged by fire as a result of arson in the early morning of Saturday 5 May 1979. The fire destroyed the whole of the interior of the building apart from the North porch, the vestry on the north side of the chancel, and the bottom half of the wooden tower.

The tower was fully restored, and the west, north and eastern walls retained, but the internal arrangements of the church were altered, the church enlarged to the south. A further extension was made to the south a few years later.

Assessments of the architectural interest of the church were made before the fire, which are recorded in (for example) the older church guide books. An archaeological investigation was also undertaken before the church was rebuilt.

A modern comprehensive review of the history and development of the church could usefully be undertaken.
