SUSAN DAWSON was then an ecologist working for COENCO, a conservation organisation in London. She presented the lectures on the ecology of Yateley. Her enthusiasm gave birth to the Society's Natural History Group and our long term interest in the biodiversity of Yateley Common. Sue's husband Edward Dawson, then Secretary of COENCO, became the Society's first Chairman. It was Edward who suggested adopting the Civic Trust model constitution and registering as a charity.
