ABOUT THE SOCIETY
Our constitution
The Society is a charity registered with the Charity Commissioners. We are also registered with the Civic Trust. Because of our origins as an adult education class interested in every aspect of Yateley, the Society has always been organised somewhat differently from a model Civic Trust primarily interested in local planning issues. We reversed the normal order of objectives in their model constitution:
(i) To educate the public in the geography, history, natural history, and architecture in or affecting the Civil Parish of Yateley.
(ii) To secure the preservation protection development and improvement of features of
historic or public interest in the Civil Parish of Yateley.
(iii) To promote high standards of planning and architecture in or affecting the Civil Parish of Yateley.
To reflect both the equal weight which the Society had always given to ecology and the changing emphasis in national planning legislation, our constitution was changed in 1997 to add a fourth object clause:
(iv) To conserve and enhance biological diversity and to contribute to the conservation of natural habitats and ecosystems and the protection of
flora and fauna characteristic of the area. As a civic amenity society we are concerned with local planning, historical research, enhancing biodiversity, and practical conservation, but above all, we seek to promote civic pride in our Town.
