Population Statistics
Here are some statistics for Yateley taken from the national census records since 1801. In 1801 Yateley Parish was much larger than it is now. Then it area was 10,036 acres, including Hawley and Blackwater, Cove and Minley. The 1801 census therefore gives the total population of the ancient parish of Yateley as 1,325, living in 225 houses. However to be consistent with the modern town I have only given the numbers for the ancient Yateley Tithing in the early censuses. The area of Yateley Tithing was then 3,222 acres and, as recorded in the 1881 census, this area became the civil parish. However this was reduced by boundary charges in 1951, and further reduced in 1961.

Data has been extracted from a variety of sources, notably the Vision of England website. For the 2001 census I have drawn on the CD-ROM which the Office of National Statistics kindly sent to me free of charge when I was compiling the Market Town 'Health Check' for the Yateley Community Plan. When the Society was first formed in the 1980s Michael Holroyd originally provided me with census numbers which I used to write our first planning submission and exhibition "Yateley - Who's Town is it Anyway?" The data above it not very pretty, but I can supply a CSV file to anyone interested. Anyone who has data to cover the gaps is welcome to contact me.
